32. Asmoday (Asmodeus) - Goetia King of Desire, Power and Hidden Knowledge

Among all spirits described in the Ars Goetia, Asmoday stands apart as one of the most feared, respected, and paradoxical figures.

He is associated with lust, jealousy, revenge, ambition, hidden knowledge, gambling, temptation, and power over human desire. Yet at the same time, ancient texts repeatedly describe him as intelligent, disciplined, and unusually refined.

That contradiction follows him everywhere.

Who is Asmoday?

Asmoday, also known as Ashmedai or Asmodeus, is traditionally ranked as a Great King commanding 72 legions of spirits.

The classical description is striking.

He appears with three heads - one like a bull, one human, one ram-like - riding a dragon and breathing fire. He carries a spear and banner, symbolizing authority and conquest.

But modern practitioners often describe something very different.

A calm presence.
Dark hair.
Measured speech.
Controlled energy beneath extreme intensity.

And that contrast is important.

Because Asmoday rarely acts through chaos alone.

He understands control.

Asmoday and Human Desire

Most grimoires associate Asmoday with lust and temptation.

But in practice, his current feels broader than simple desire.

He influences:

obsession and attraction;

rivalry and jealousy;

ambition and domination;

hidden urges people try to suppress;

emotional dependency and attachment;

This is why work connected to Asmoday can feel extremely intense.

He amplifies what already exists beneath the surface.

Sometimes to the point where it becomes impossible to ignore.

The Builder of Solomon’s Temple

One of the oldest legends surrounding Asmoday connects him to King Solomon and the construction of the Temple of Jerusalem.

According to occult tradition, Solomon forced Asmoday into service and used his knowledge to complete sacred architecture and uncover hidden methods of power.

But the relationship was never truly stable.

In many versions of the story, Asmoday eventually overthrows Solomon himself after receiving the king’s magical ring.

Which reveals something essential about his nature.

Power can be borrowed.
But never fully controlled.

Knowledge, Influence & Mental Power

Beyond passion and temptation, Asmoday is also associated with:

mathematics;

astronomy;

hidden sciences;

reading intentions and thoughts;

discovering treasures and concealed things;

This combination of intellect and instinct is what makes him unusually complex compared to many other Goetic spirits.

Not merely destructive.

Strategic.

Why Practitioners Approach Asmoday

In modern practice, Asmoday is often approached when someone seeks:

stronger personal power;

attraction and influence;

domination in competitive situations;

confidence and fearlessness;

deeper knowledge of hidden motives;

intensified passion or emotional control;

But his current is not considered gentle.

It tends to magnify what already exists inside a person.

A Practical Observation

People sometimes expect immediate external results.

But with Asmoday, the first changes often happen internally.

Desires become clearer.
Ambition sharpens.
Fear weakens.
Emotional restraint becomes harder to maintain.

And then the outer world starts responding differently.
